MuMu gets a new heart

Since MuMu is a 1977 Federal vehicle (non-California LandCruiser FJ40) getting her smogged is usually a no-hassle endeavor. No catalytic converter, no crazy vacum lines and not sure on this but I don't think there is a smog pump. So when i drove MuMu over to the smog test-only center in Encinitas I was a little surprised when the mechanic said, "Can you come here? We have a problem."

Turns out the 30 year old fuel pump finally decided it was time to quit and was squirting gas all over the engine compartment. Ugghh!. Drover her home put her back in the garage and went online to order a new fuel pump from Specter Off Road.  We left on our 4 day Central Coast trip after that so MuMu had to sit a while until I could get to this project.

Replacing the fuel pump on a 1977 Toyota is really not that difficult. There are two bolts attaching it to the engine block, a fuel line in and a fuel line out. My biggest concern was doing this in a somewhat stealth manner so my neighbor wouldn't freak out.

To give myself more room I had to remove the battery, the oil filter and loosen the splash guard that runs underneath the fuel pump. Once these things were out of the way it was pretty much a no brainer. The old fule pump came out and the new fuel pump went in. Bought some new fuel lines also since I am guessing they were also 30 years old. Once everything was back in I cranked the key and MuMu fired right up.

New Tacoma Suspension

Seems Toyota Inc. has isuued a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) with regards to the supension on the 2005-2007 Tacoma Pre-Runners and 4X4 trucks.
Thing about a TSB is that you actually have to complain about it to get them to do anything.

To  make a long story short I walked into Toyota Carlsbad for an oil change and left with  a service order for a complete suspension replacement.
The parts had to be ordered but within a week our humble little SR5 4x4 was transformed into a TRD 4x4. Well, the suspension anyway.

Kudos to Toyota for doing the right thing. Cost of suspension $1800. Cost to us $0.
